'Memoirs of a Geisha' is one of my all time favourite movies. The story follows a young girl who grew up in a small fishing village in Japan, her mother dies when she is very young, subsequently her and her sister are sold to two different geisha houses as their father can no longer afford to look after them. The rest of the story looks at what life is like for the girl growing up in a world she feels like she doesn't belong in. I like this movie because it shows the girl's full story and not just a small part of it, you see the character at her worst, and at her best, because of this the viewer can get a full sense of what it's like to live this girl's life. You also see her fully bloom from a young, and somewhat naive little girl to a fully flourished young woman. I also like this movie because it is essentially a love story and my favourite move genre is romance!

John Lewis Tv Advert
We watched this advert in class and I personally think that it's one of the best adverts of the year! The advert shows a boy and a girl from two different worlds and their story of love. Looking at the world from the point of view of a woman living in 1925 and a man living in the present day lets us see the world from a new perspective. As most of the advert is edited to be in split screen, we are able to see the two characters carrying out the same daily activities but as though they're in a different time because all of the clothes, buildings, cars etc are like they were in the 1920's. It is also filmed as if the two characters can see and touch each other even though they can't. However, it may also be filmed from the perspective that the characters can actually see and touch each other and maybe it's just as though they're from different worlds.

My Favourite Actress
Helena Bonham-Carter |
My favourite actress is Helena Bonham-Carter, she has starred in many films from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' to 'Sweeny Todd'. She is my favourite actress because she always plays very excentric characters and she seems to fully take on the role of the character by thinking and acting as she thinks the character would act according to their personality. This usually makes her seem a bit derranged, which sets her apart from other more 'normal' actresses.

Favourite movie line, part one.
Prepare for a geeky Lord Of The Rings moment.
"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"
For me, this has to be one of the most memorable scenes throughout the whole trilogy. Gandalf faces the Lord of the Balrogs and shows more power than he ever has before. I thought this was a very emotional scene because when the Balrog drags Gandalf down with him over the Bridge of Khazad-dûm and into the dark abyss, the viewer isn't sure if Gandalf is dead, but it is confirmed by The Fellowship's reaction. I always get a bit emotional at this point because Gandalf is such a key character and it is completely unexpected when he is killed off, it is only later on in the second film/book (The Two Towers) that Gandalf is reincarnated as Gandalf The White.
